Al-Taawoun FC issued a media statement in which it expressed its condemnation and categorical rejection of the offensive chants directed at one of the Al-Hilal players during the match between the two teams, stressing that such behaviour is utterly rejected, and does not represent Al-Taawoun FC or its fans or the values for which the club's stands are known
The club stressed in its statement that sporting competition can never be a justification for abuse, belittling others or bullying at the expense of any person's feelings, affirming that Saudi sport draws its values from the morals of society and the teachings of the tolerant Islamic religion, and is based on respect, fair competition and preserving everyone's dignity
Al-Taawoun FC affirmed that any chants or practices that go beyond the limits of sporting support are individual behaviours that cannot be attributed to Al-Taawoun fans, whose awareness and history of standing behind their team in a sporting and responsible spirit the club takes pride in
The club also stressed its rejection of any abuse, whatever its source or target, affirming that it is taking all necessary measures with the relevant authorities to ensure such behaviour is not repeated, and to deter every offender
Al-Taawoun FC concluded its statement by affirming the firmness of its position in support of a refined sporting environment, befitting the name and standing of Saudi sport, and strengthening the values of respect and sportsmanship inside and outside the stadiums
